More Flowers . . .

I picked up some Begonias the other day to put in my front porch containers which are pretty shaded but do get some early morning sun. I haven't used Begonias there before but had one in the front flowerbed not far from the porch and it got the same lighting. I have a Begonia I hold over every year but haven't seen any sign of life on it yet so . . .

I bought this light pink almost white one with darker pink trim around the edges. For a long time I couldn't find Begonias that fit my color scheme but now I find more that come close. Those of you who know me have mentioned spotting a trend with my flowers. Pink, fuchsia, blue, purple, wine, mauve and the 'cool color' list goes on. But as you've seen from the beautiful tub of yellow daffodils a friend gave me and farther down in these pictures I'm trying to expand. Now that the flowers showing on both roads that go front and side of our property are all matching I can add some different colors in the middle. And a darker pink one to go close by in the same area.
A small pink Dahlia for a container on my deck in the back - this looks a little brighter than it really is but you get the idea.
Another small pink Dahlia for the deck.
My Hostas are starting to leap now and getting tall. I noticed they are starting to open up.
This Sedum Blue Spruce is really changing colors and growing like crazy.
It almost looks like it's ready for fall again now. Hope it goes back to blue/green like it's suppose to.
This is Saxifraga London Pride and I got the pictures switched around. Here you can see the blooms growing about 4" or more up out of the florettes.
In the picture above (for some reason I can't type above it) you can see the new green growth coming up from the yellower old growth. Huge florettes just popped right out this spring. See I am getting some yellow incorporated into my gardens and I love this one!
Below is the bloom on the London Pride. Pretty wine color but I believe this one blooms yellow.
Since not much is blooming at my place yet I couldn't resist taking a picture of my Mother's Daphne. Too bad it isn't scratch and sniff because it smells wonderful. So far I've killed 3 Daphnes so I don't know if I'll try another one or not. I probably will . . .
Because they are so beautiful.
This Magnolia tree of my neighbors was just starting to bloom one day . . .
Then just seemed to open right up the next day. This tree in a bit darker rose color is on my wish list for the back yard.

More New Flowers and A Tree

For my anniversary I had decided to buy either a Magnolia or a Weeping Cherry tree. Yesterday we went shopping and I didn't end up with either. I saw some of both but the Cherry trees were done blooming and I wasn't going to trust a tag that said it was the color I wanted so I decided to wait until next year on that one. I did find some Magnolias with blooms but they just didn't seem like quite the shade I had been wanting. Then I saw the perfect tree - one that would be planted in the lower lawn off to the left of the deck. Not far from a couple of birdbaths where the birds can sit in the tree waiting in line to bathe. They use to do that with a Butterfly Bush we had right next to the deck but the roots got big and we were concerned about that and moved it. This tree, we decided, would be out farther more into the middle area between the deck and the bank. It was a beautiful Crabapple tree called Brandywine. Even the name fit my yard. I had seen a few Crabapple trees on peoples blogs and really liked them in pictures. And I had seen one at the nursery I did a post on but the color was a little off. Brandywine was perfect so I went home with that.

And a couple of Sempervivum King George Hens & Chicks. These are the deep burgandy color I've had a hard time finding and they even have the webbing in them.
We stopped by another place where I found some tall phlox which is something I've been wanting but don't see many of. I bought Flame Purple and Blue Paradise. I already have one kind of phlox and it's about 18" tall so I was happy to find Blue Paradise will get 2 to 3 feet tall and Flame Purple will be about 16" or so. The leaves of one have a reddish tint to them for a nice contrast.
Last I purchased a blue Thunderbird Evergreen Huckleberry bush as a novelty for the garden - it'll be a race to get some of the berries before the birds and deer. I have wild red huckleberry bushes on each of my three old growth stumps and the taste always reminds me of growing up and eating wild ones so I thought we might like the blue ones too. It will get about 6 feet tall by 5 feet wide. It's loaded with blooms so I can't wait to taste the berries.

Fun with Sedums

This is Sedum Cauticolum on each side of what I think is a Sweet Potato Vine 'Blackie' and some Ice Plant in front that hadn't filled in at the time of the photo. Cauticolum looks so much like October Plant I can hardly tell them apart when doing starts because of the beautiful blue green foliage trimmed in pink that they both have. In the background you can see my 'bloomin' stairs' that I planted in Thyme. I have one on each side of the bank for easier access farther up in the back of the yard.

My only 2 tall Sedums so far. Autumn Joy on top and Linda Windsor, my newest. I thought the dark wine colored foliage would be a great contrast with all of the greens around here. The bloom is almost the same color as the foliage.

The 3 planters above have similar plantings in them of Hens and Chicks, Cape Blanco, Tri Color, Vera Jamison, I think some Purple Form, Cauticolum, October Plant Sedums, an Armeria, Viola and Johnny Jump Ups. Another nice green one you can see on the top right I'm not sure about the name. I haven't decided if I will stick them here and there in the flower beds or sell them if I decide to do some markets this summer.

3 old canisters my husband riveted together to put Sedums in. The large one has Purple Form, on the left is Babys Tears and I don't know what the third one is. The picture below shows them in bloom. The yellow bloom sure matched the flower on the canister

Bunches Of New Flowers For Fertilizer Friday

It's Fertilizer Friday and everyone is flaunting their flowers so when ya get done here be sure to link over to Tootsies place at the bottom and see what she and everyone else is up to.
I'm going to do something different today
since I just showed close to 60 flowers that were blooming between last FF and
yesterday.
I do, however, have an Aster that is starting to show color. I always thought this was a bush until the other day when reading about them and decided to go look. Well I'll be . . . it's a whole bunch of little bunches that
I was suppose to be dividing every 3-4 years. Wonder how many years I've had it.
Bet I get around 20-30 clumps when I divide it. WoW! Am I gonna have Fall color
in my yard or what next year.

My Delphinium is blooming - for the 2nd time. Me, who's been trying to grow
Delphiniums for 20 years now and only succeeding in killing them faster than the
year before. Now I have one that came back this year (from seed last year) and 2
I bought that haven't died yet. And now one of them is doing this. I think maybe
I've died and gone to (Delphinium) heaven.
I said I was going to do something a little different today. Well I am . . . I'm
going to show flowers I bought yesterday and a couple of days ago. I was in town
and for some reason stopped by Ace Hardware and they had lots of perennials and
the price was right. I only wanted some Asters after discovering I need to
divide mine up and am going to have lots of that one color. But when I started
looking they had soooooo many flowers - so I bought 4. But the more I thought
about it after getting home the more I thought I probably should go back and get
more. I did a few days later and today going to show you what I hauled home.
I'll never get to quit working in the dirt this year if I don't stop this!
This Dahlia only says Dahlia Hybrid so guess it has no name. I hate
when they do that. O'well at least I get to see a Dahlia bloom in my yard this
year. Oh it's sooooooooooooo pretty.

Platycodon Astra Blue Balloon Flower. I know I already have one but it's small and will go
great on the front bank.

Platycodon Astra White Balloon Flower, also for the front bank.

Phlox Scarlet Flame, another bank flower.

Guara Passionate Blush. I had a Guara and just loved it but one year it just didn't
come back. Sure hope this one sticks around.

And this one too. Guara Snow Fountain.

Penstemon Margarita BOP

Nepta Blue Moon Catmint. This one is bushy, it should show up a lot better than my
Walker's Low does. I can't wait to see it next year.

I FINALLY have a daisy! Finally found one that knocked my socks off. Leucanthemum
Superbum Schneehurken Shasta Daisy. I hope that's the right name. My tag fell
through the cracks on the deck (don't ya hate when that happens?) and I looked
this up. I was even at the site where they buy their flowers.

Silene Clifford Moor. I bought another Silene earlier this year and the bloom time is
long so I had to try another one. And this one has pretty varigated leaves which
will be great for a different foliage color in the garden.

Perovskia Atriplicifolia Russian Sage.

Isotoma Blue Star Creeper, another for the front bank.

Pratia County Park. I can't believe this one and the one above are not the same
family.

Ceratostigma Plumbaginoides

Aster Hazy

Aster Dragon

Aster Marie III showing a little color.
Bob's Passion Flower, I don't know if it's going to be a perennial here or not.

Now back to the ones I just bought (threw that Passion Flower in). Only these I'm
going to show now aren't blooming. Still I wanted to finish showing you the
flowers I got, and still have to plant. This is a tiny little Heuchera Canyon Duet. I think I'll have to
put it next to my little tiny Hosta I got earlier this summer. I didn't know
there was a Heuchera this small, only 3 to 6 inches. The bloom may bring the
height up to 12 inches. Yup, teenie weenie just like the Hosta with about 6"
leaves.
Penstemon Blue Buckle - I'm putting the tag with these so you can see what they will look
like.

Penstemon Husker Red Strain

Coneflower Ruby Star
Coneflower Baby Swan White

Coneflower Prairie Splendor
